Devlin Waugh: Swimming in blood - Cover comparison by Mattyred Devlin Waugh: Swimming in blood - Cover comparison by Mattyred
I'm re - doing a submission for 2000ad this is the cover, with two versions, the difference being the skin and clothes colour and detail on the character ... drawn in Manga studio and coloured in Photoshop ...

This is quite a decent picture. what i don't understand is this: why is it a camparision drawing? I mean i truely don't understand it and i comprend a lot of things!

anyways vision is good and i like the oringality of the art shown here i see no impact shown here at all. i see that the techinque is definately shown very well here well done!

this looks like an orignal comic which i assume it is so i will not insult you by asking but i am interested to know more about it or at the very least ur style

The illustration on the left is far away better than the one on the right,i mean the colours and textures once the drawing is basically the same. I think the character's personality has been nicely shown here. The background effects are spot on and based solely on this illustration i would say this submission is going to be a good trying. If there is something which i would tell you to be more meticulous it would be with the hands, isn't clear if his is just making a gesture with his right hand or positioning/grabbing around his waist,if is the second option you could given more deep. Repeat the gesture yourself and do shoot some pictures as reference and you shall understand what i'm talking about. As a whole,a damn good job mate, guess you're in the right trail.

I know I'm quite late but I think the right is better because all the extra shadows and whatnot make the left look a bit more like a carricature then an honest depiction.

Incidentally, I wish John Smith would finally get to making more Devlin Waugh, it's been 7 years since his last very brief story, which was two years after another just as brief one, which was another two years since Red Tide aka Swimming in Blood without the charm or atmosphere and with the villain turning into a totally forgettable cackling monster buffoon.
